The second meeting of this season will be at the Flying W Ranch on October 19 starting at 11 AM. Agenda will be distributed at the meeting. All are welcome.
There will be a snowmobile safety course held at the West Hickory Community Building on Nov 29, 2014 . The course is sponsored by the Forest County SC and the Marienville Trail Riders SC. It will be taught by FCSC’s Nelda Martin, Paulette Wood and MTRSC members. The event starts at 8AM and will end around 4PM. A lunch will be provided. All ages are welcome but potential drivers 10-15 must have completed this course to legally operate a snowmobile in PA.
I hear some are riding. Slight warm up later this week with a chance of snow. Forestry says “good” conditions. Not sure of that everywhere but might be good enough to get some March riding in this week and weekend. I am going to give it a try.
Kellettville is icy with some fluff on top. The Forestry report indicates they are grooming but we are not sure why. We are not grooming, you can’t groom ice. More snow forecast for Saturday and Sunday (a little late for most of us). Long term forecast is for cold into mid March. Trails are probably ridable in most places but I have no specific reports.
Haven’t talked to anyone that has ridden but it looks like the trails are ridable but ice with some fluff on top. Not enough snow to groom yet. Snow is forecast, I will try to update if we get the snow promised. Best chance of snow is over the weekend.
The Flying W is closed until April 4th, Whig Hill Store is closed and for sale. Currently the Flying W is NOT planning to stay open in the winter because of lack of business.
Warm temps and rain are forecast for a few days. There is a good base but the rain may do us in. We will keep you updated. If you weren’t here last weekend you missed great conditions. Whig Hill Store is closed until trout season. Flying W is closed until April 4th.
With the cold weather the snow is holding up well and with light snow forecast it should be great. This weekend should be the best. The only negative is the Forestry groomer for our area is down for mechanical issues. Our groomer plus Tionesta Valley and Marienville will try to make up the slack. We will be grooming Friday to the top of the hill at Chapman Dam. This is a long run for us (about 10/12 hours round trip). We will be doing our normal loops on Saturday/Sunday morning. Hope not but this could be the last weekend before the thaw. See you on the trail. Watch for the groomer, we will be grooming during the day.
The trails held up well last weekend so there is a good base. Snowstorm coming in tonight and tomorrow should give the groomers lots of snow to work with to add to the trails. All the groomers (FCSC, Forestry and MTRSC) should be out Wednesday and Thusday. This is shaping up as the best weekend of the year for sleds. Come early and stay late, enjoy the snow.
Linda and I of course have prepaid plans to go to Michigan for the weekend. Seems like we do it every year
Al trails in the forest are posted as good. We can confirm that in our section of the ANF. Only negative is the rain/snow mix forecast for Saturday. Get on the trails early if you can. FCSC groomed yesterday and the Forestry plans to finish today.
